Scope and Purpose
A government mandated course designed to increase awareness among seafarers on the measures that could be employed to avoid, deter, or delay piracy attack to ships in order to minimize the danger to both the crew and the ship in the event of pirates’ attack.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify different forms of piracy threats
- State different IMO initiatives to counter piracy and armed robbery against ships
- Explain principles of counter piracy activities and layered protection
- Identify appropriate responses to attempted attacks
- Apply suitable actions to be taken if pirates take over the ship
- Explain the need to participate in the anti-piracy drills and training
