Scope and Purpose

The course provides an increased degree of awareness of the problems encountered in the storage handling and processing of Residual and Distillate fuel onboard the ship. The main approach is to ensure that safe and proficient manner of the operational practices on board in order to reduce the level of emissions.

 
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
  • Understand the distillation process of residual and distillate fuel oil from Crude Oil
  • Describe FO distillate, FO standards, and properties
  • Identify the detrimental effect of heavy fuel oil on engine operation
  • Explain the operational damage cause by HFO
  • Understand the existing and future ECAs (Local & International)
  • Understand FO sulfur cap 2020 implementation & guidelines using 0.5% sulfur content on engine operation
  • Define the SEEMP (EEDI & EEOI) implementing guidelines
  • Explain OSM Thome bunker management & Bunker Calculation
  • Knowledgeable with Thome Ship Management operational procedures in Fuel Oil Management
